Buying a house in Javea with Dacasas

Jávea, also written as Xàbia, lies exactly between Valencia and Alicante. The coastal town, in the Costa Blanca, is popular among people who like to spend the winter in Spain: you can enjoy a constant Mediterranean climate all year round. Add the beautiful beaches, crystal-clear sea and blue sky and you have the ultimate Spanish experience. Moreover, the old town is brimming with culture and history.

AUTHENTIC SPANISH

Javéa, like Valencia, has the ideal combination of beach and city. It consists of three parts: La Villa (the old town), the sandy plain and the port. In La Villa, the old town, you can spend hours wandering around the many medieval alleys and streets. In many places, you can still see remnants of the time when the city was subject to conquests and piracy.

LA VILLA

In the 14th century, the city was regularly plundered by pirates who stormed the coastal spot via the coast. Remains from this era include the cannonballs in the la Iglesia de San Bartolomé, built in part to stop invaders. But not everything is reminiscent of wasteland. The beautiful churches, Gothic architecture, arched doorways, and white facades also show the richness of this period. Characteristic of this area is the use of 'tosca' in the buildings. Tosca is sandstone and gives the buildings their beautiful yellow-brown colour.

If you want to learn more about Javéa's history, you can visit the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum 'Soler Blasco'. There you will learn all about the conquests and piracy of this part of Spain and what traces this has left.

Definitely worth a visit is the Mercado de Jávea, the market hall. Here you can get your first cup of coffee at 8am. There is also a very nice weekly market at Plaza de la Constitución.

THE PORT

Part of the port still dates back to the 15th century. You won't find much of it unfortunately: the port wasn't very big and important back then. In the 19th century, the port flourished due to the sultana trade from Javea. Nowadays, you'll find mainly fishing boats in the port, but you can also go there for water sports like diving. A visit to the La Lonja fish market is definitely a must.

Next to the port, near Playa de la Grava and Playa del Puerto, you will find a striking building with modern architecture: the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Loreto. With a little imagination, you can see the shape of a boat in it.

PLAYA DEL ARENAL (CITY BEACH)

The municipality's only sandy beach can be found in Jávea. A Mediterranean beach with 480 metres of coarse sand and shallow water. As a result, the sea water is almost always lovely to float in. Of course, it's not very nice to go cooling off in the water by swimming in the winter months, but it's still a lovely temperature for paddling. Despite the shallow water close to the beach, it is possible to do various water sports further afield, such as diving or supping. Not a sports enthusiast? No problem. You can also enjoy a drink on the promenade at Playa del Arenal beach.

PLAYA DE LA GRANADELLA

The beaches around Jávea are also beautiful. Many of these beaches are located in a bay and you have beautiful views from the mountains around them. Because of the surrounding mountains, you're also well out of the wind on these beaches. One of the most beautiful beaches around Jávea is Playa de la Granadelle, also called Playa Granadella. Highly recommended to visit and take a dip in the intense blue water.
